Illinois Football: Weather Forecast for the North Carolina Game

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Should be a beautiful night for football in Champaign as the Fighting Illini take the field against the Tar Heels at 6:30 PM.

Despite the severe weather that passed through Champaign last night and earlier today, and a flash flood warning in effect as I write this, expect excellent weather this evening for the game.

According to Accu Weather there should be clear skies and a temperature of about 70 degrees at kick-off.

It might be a little breezy, but nothing that will impact the game.  There  could be some residual dampness from the rain and humidity, but the FieldTurf at Memorial Stadium should be in good shape for the players.

For those of you tailgating this afternoon, you might deal with some generally soggy conditions, but nothing that should keep you away.

By mid-afternoon there should be mostly ckear skies and temps in the mid 70s.

This is going to be a very interesting game tonight. The stadium will be full of orange clad fans – maybe not sold-out, but close.  The energy will level will be very high.

The only question is whether the Illini will play good enough to sustain that energy the entire night.  I think they will.

I am with those who think success will be measured by how good the Illini play, not necessarily whether they win.

This game is about giving Illini Nation hope. If the Illini can keep it close and keep the fans in the stadium to the end, that will be huge.

And if they win, well… perhaps those predicting the Illini will play in a significant bowl game this season will be vindicated.  I hope they are!

We Will Win!!

Go Illini!!!
