In response to proposed bill, Simon says MU 'doesn't care about us'
On Monday, Rick Brattin -- a member of the Missouri House of Representatives -- pre-filed a bill which would revoke scholarships for any player participating in a strike.
This bill likely is in response to the actions taking place earlier this year at the University of Missouri. Many players on the Mizzou football team went on strike due to racially-driven incidents on campus. Eventually, university president Tim Wolfe resigned amidst the student protests.
Missouri player Ian Simon commented about the proposed bill, and voiced his frustrations at the attempt.
"They want to call us student athletes. But they keep us out the student part of it," said Simon. "I'm more than just a football player...As soon as we're done playing at the University of Missouri, the University of Missouri does not care about us anymore. We are not their responsibility. Our sport is just a small part of who we are."
With tension already running high in regards to previous instances of striking and protest on campus, this proposed bill likely won't help matters much.

Key point. Bill sponsor sounds misguided on who pays for athletic scholarships. https://t.co/8Gd1JWr0OF
