Indiana coach not in the mood to talk about star RB's status

That Indiana football's three-game losing streak has come at the same time star running back Jordan Howard has been battling an ankle injury is probably not a coincidence.

After injuring himself Oct. 3 against Ohio State, Howard has missed losses to Penn State and Rutgers the past two weeks.

Head coach Kevin Wilson was asked how he looked in practice Tuesday on the Big Ten coaches teleconference and gave a rather curt answer.

"It was the same practice we had," Wilson said. "If you want a copy of the practice tape, I’ll send it to (Michigan State coach Mark) Dantonio, too."

With that he concluded the interview, but Wilson had gone into more detail a day before during his usual week-opening press conference in Bloomington.

"Real deal is you want to get Jordan healthy enough, not that he can play in games, but he can get back and do the things in practice, and we don't need to over practice him," Wilson said. "He's a proven player, but you just want to see that he can handle the cutting and the workload."

In Howard's absence against the Scarlet Knights, Devine Redding ran for 99 yards on 15 carries while Mike Majette had 83 yards on 11 carries.

"We'll get Jordan back quickly," Wilson said. "It was really good just to get the running game going, get the offensive line playing better. We're going to see a very, very stout Michigan State front that plays great run defense, so it's going to be hard to run on these guys. Great defense."
