Indiana picks up a pair of junior-college prospects

With the goal of making the postseason this season achieved, the obvious goal for Indiana football would seem to be... making the postseason again. 

Coach Kevin Wilson no doubt hopes he took a step in that direction this week by getting commitments from two players who might be able to help faster than the usual recruit. 

That is because Richard Lagow and Ian Thomas are not high school seniors at the moment but junior-college players. 

Lagow committed Monday and plans to enroll in time to compete for the open starting job at quarterback during spring ball according to the Indianapolis Star. 

 Scout.com rates Lagow, who also considered UNLV, Memphis and Arizona State, the No. 7 JUCO QB prospect in the country. 

He will arrive in Bloomington to find a quarterback room that is crowded but has no incumbent starter with Nate Sudfeld graduating. Zander Diamont, who filled in for Sudfeld for roughly half of the 2014 season, has the most experience, but he lost part of his 2015 season to injury and will have to compete with the likes of Danny Cameron, Nate Bourdreau, Austin King and Mike Fiacable as well as now Lagow. 

The 11-player recruiting class also includes Peyton Ramsey, a three-star recruit who is a senior at Cincinnati Elder High School. 

Thomas is a two-star tight end prospect who also considered New Mexico, South Alabama, Temple, Middle Tennessee State and Idaho according to Scout.com. He spent last season at Nassau Community College in New York. 

Thomas and Lagow give Indiana three JUCO prospects in this class so far. They join Jayme Thompson of Iowa Western, a three-star safety prospect who committed during the summer. He is a Toledo native who began his college career at Ohio State.
