Is Auburn promising one of its commits immediate playing time?
With the defensive backfield being a big question mark for Auburn in 2016 under new defensive coordinator Kevin Steele and secondary coach Wesley McGriff, the two Tiger coaches are reportedly telling safety prospect Marlon Character he will be given every opportunity to come in and play right away in 2016.
Character, rated as a three-star recruit and the No. 18 safety prospect in the nation according to 247Sports Composite Ratings, is being targeted by both Auburn and South Carolina with signing day quickly approaching. The Atlanta safety is currently committed to the Tigers however that has yet to stop Will Muschamp and his staff from attempting to steer him to Columbia.
According to the Montgomery Advertiser, Auburn coaches Steele and McGriff have told Character he will be see the field early next season. The safety prospect left the visit feeling confident about his decision:
“...they’re not scared to play freshmen," Character said. "No matter what year you are, the best will be on the field. They told me I could play right away.”
“You know, I’m pretty solid right now coming off this visit. Talking to the coaching staff, hanging out with some of the players, everything was good.”
While once committed to South Carolina when Steve Spurrier was the coach, keep an eye on Character as National Signing Day nears. Muschamp and the new Gamecock crew have a reputation as some of the best recruiters in the South and likely won't give up until Character signs his scholarship papers.
