Is kicker still a concern for No. 2 Michigan State?
Michigan State football is riding high at No. 2 in The Associated Press poll as the Spartans head into their fourth week of the season.
With the possibility of no ranked teams on their schedule until a trip to Ohio State in late November, they may not be in a close game for a while.
If they are, will Mark Dantonio be able to trust his kicking game?
That question had to be asked after junior Michael Geiger missed a short one against Air Force last week. It came on the heels of a win over Oregon that also included a miss from 28 yards out and left Geiger two for four on the year.
After a great freshman season, Geiger had a rough sophomore campaign that was followed by hip surgery.
He told the Lansing State Journal his problem is not physical though.
"I've really got to be ready for the next kick," Geiger said. "I feel just as confident as I was, but it's hard when I look at the extra-point reps, those are great. But I got one (field goal) rep in the game. That's my stage; that's my time to shine. So disappointing, but after Sunday meetings, wash it away, review all the film."
Adding he had a great day in practice Tuesday, Geiger said he feels he has his Dantonio in his corner.
"Coach has great faith in me and always talks to me. He's very upfront with me."
