Is Paul Perkins a dark-horse contender for the Heisman?
UCLA has emerged as a real threat to make the College Football Playoff early this season, off to a hot 4-0 start.
While quarterback Josh Rosen has garnered much of the attention so far, running back Paul Perkins has quietly impressed. He recorded 101 total yards and 3 touchdowns vs. Arizona on Saturday. Let's not forget: Perkins also boasted 219 yards vs. BYU and 151 yards vs. UNLV the weeks before that.
"Although Perkins’ candidacy is certainly on the rise, he’s still very much a dark horse at the moment," writes NCAA.com's Sam Richmond. "It’s going to take UCLA finishing the season undefeated and truly becoming one of the more talked about teams in the country for him to have a chance at the hardware."
Perkins averages 6.3 yards per carry and leads the conference with 6 rushing touchdowns. He led the Pac-12 with 1,575 yards last season.
