Jake Butt to return for senior year: 'My heart and soul is with Michigan'

Michigan football got good news for 2016 on Tuesday when Jake Butt announced his intention to return for his senior year. 

The reigning Big Ten Tight End of the Year told reporters in Ann Arbor on Monday he would consider leaving a year early only if he were projected to be picked in the first three rounds, but that he needed to talk to head coach Jim Harbaugh first. 

Tuesday he posted his decision on Twitter. 

"My heart and soul is with Michigan, and I'm excited to return for my senior year and play for the most historic university and the greatest coaches in college football."

Michigan faces Florida in the Citrus Bowl on Jan. 1. 

Butt led Big Ten tight ends with 48 catches for 620 yards and three touchdowns during the regular season. 

More than a half-dozen Michigan players who were starters this season were juniors who could enter the NFL a year early.
