James Madison ready to name coach?
(STATS) - James Madison could be ready to hire a new coach.
Footballscoop.com reported Monday the CAA Football program has offered the position to The Citadel coach Mike Houston, although the coaching website later said former Montana and UNLV coach Bobby Hauck remained in the process.
The JMU job became open on Jan. 6 when Everett Withers resigned after two seasons to become Texas State's new coach.
Houston, 44, is coming off his second season at The Citadel, where he led the Bulldogs to their first FCS playoff appearance since 1992. They finished 9-4, including a 23-22 upset of SEC member South Carolina.
He has a 43-19 career record, including three seasons from 2011-13 at Division II Lenoir-Rhyne.
Hauck, 51, went 80-17 in seven seasons (2003-09) at Montana, losing in the FCS national championship game three times. He was 15-49 in five seasons (2010-14) at UNLV.
