K-State band saga keeps turning with threatening emails to director

Published Sep. 9, 2015 12:27 p.m. ET

The Kansas State band might or might not have known it was forming a giant phallic symbol and not the starship enterprise, but there's no way they could have foreseen the ensuing firestorm that refuses to be extinguished.

On Tuesday, the school announced internal sanctions that included a $5,000 fine for poor sportsmanship and a one-game suspension for band director Dr. Frank Tracz, who will miss, appropriately enough, the Wildcats' game against the Kansas Jayhawks.

According to a since-deleted Facebook post by Tracz's wife Geralyn, her husband has been receiving threatening emails, including from people who want to put him on a sexual predator list.

Geralyn goes on to make other rather valid points about school taunting within rivalries, from distasteful t-shirts to hanging mascots in effigy, activities that are really, if ever, punished.

At this point, it's probably best to let bygones be bygones and move on. It really wasn't that big of a deal anyway, was it?

And what if that phallic-looking formation really was the starship enterprise on a mission to destroy the evil Jayhawk by blowing up in his mouth?
