Kansas Coach David Beaty: 'Man, They're Stinking Good'

You can be assured Oklahoma isn’t looking past its football matchup with Kansas this weekend, and Jayhawk head coach David Beaty isn’t taking the Sooners for granted, either, despite what the critics are saying.

In his weekly press conference on Tuesday the Kansas head coach previewed the Jayhawks’ trip to Norman this weekend to take on the reigning Big 12 champions and 16th-ranked Sooners.

Beaty talked about the challenge of going up against Bob Stoops and what a great football environment it is at Oklahoma.

“It’s a great challenge and a great opportunity to coach against one of your coaching heroes, and he certainly is one of those guys,” the KU head coach said. “I’ve learned a lot just by watching him from afar, how he manages and the things that he’s done there.

“I know they’re very lucky to have him, and they’re glad they do have him.”

Beaty went on to talk about Oklahoma on offense, as well as what the Jayhawks expect from the Sooners much-maligned defensive unit.

“They’re second in the Big 12 in total offense. Man, they are stinking good,” he said about the Sooners’ offensive capability.

The Jayhawk head coach then switched the subject to talk about Oklahoma on the defensive side of the ball:

“They’re ninth in the Big 12 in total defense right now, but that’s not what the tape says,” Beaty said. “You flip that tape on, and it doesn’t look like that.

“I don’t care what the numbers say, I’m just telling you, they’re stinking good. They’ve got some good ball players on that side.”
