Kansas State Wildcats: Texas Bowl Travel Guide

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 5:42 p.m. ET

The Kansas State Wildcat football team is going bowling for the seventh straight season and you need to get to Texas for the game.

You know you want to go- so why not go. You don’t have to fly. Driving to Houston and back will be fun, especially celebrating a victory.

The Wildcats have earned a postseason bowl berth in 14 of the last 19 seasons, and were one of just nine programs nationally to reach a bowl game in 12 of 14 season (1993-2006), according to the school athletic web site.

I have traveled to and from Houston dozens of times over the years and love the city. You will too.

Whether you fly or drive, Houston is perfect place for families and friends. Houston has it all. H-Town is jam-packed with exciting things to see and do.

Kelli Brignac, an expert on the fun in Houston provided me with details on just a few of the things you’ll want to see including the Flying Saucer for the discerning craft beer drinker.

What’s second to a football fan’s love of the game? BEER.

The Flying Saucer has a location right in Downtown Houston (about 15 minutes from the site of the Texas Bowl- NRG Stadium) and outside the city in Sugar Land – (in the suburbs – convenient to outlying hotels)

The Flying Saucer has nearly 200 beers from craft brewers across the country – including a variety specially curated from Houston and around the Lone Star State.

A great way to save some time trying to hit all the breweries is to make a place like the Flying Saucer your one-stop-shop for local crafts.

Don’t miss this special event: – the Downtown location will offer $3 dueling pints including one Manhattan-based Tallgrass and one from Texas.

Kelli also told me you have to try their loaded rocket tots, the Saucer burger or of course a beer float for dessert!
