Kentucky Football: Benny Snell Jr. Proves Future Is Bright
Benny Snell Jr. saved the Kentucky football team from disaster against the New Mexico State Aggies. He also proved that the future is bright in Lexington.
The running back tandem of Stanley Boom Williams and Jojo Kemp form a rare sense of stability for an otherwise unstable Kentucky football team. Yet, during the first win of the season, it wasn’t the veterans who broke the scoreboard.
Instead, it was freshman running back Benny Snell Jr. who stepped up with one of the greatest performances in program history.
It must be noted that Williams was dominant, rushing for 181 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. It was Snell, however, who came out of nowhere with a four-touchdown performance when Kentucky desperately needed it.
Snell became just the second freshman in Kentucky Wildcats history to rush for at least four touchdowns in a single game.

It was a truly dominant performance.
Snell wasn’t just compiling yards and touchdowns against a lackluster run defense; he was showing significant potential. When a hole would close, he would bounce outside and fight through contact for extra yardage.
When a running lane would present itself for just a brief period of time, Snell would hit it quickly and pick up the most yardage possible.
Expecting Snell to post 100-plus rushing yards every time out would admittedly be irrational. He’s still a freshman, and the Wildcats have a surplus of SEC opponents coming up on the schedule.
It was Snell’s fourth touchdown, however, that showed just how determined he is to be great.

Will power.
At a time when optimism was lost, Snell reminded Big Blue Nation that the future is bright. Along with sophomores Derrick Baity, C.J. Conrad, and Chris Westry, and juniors Jeff Badet, Juice Johnson, Stephen Johnson and Boom Williams, Kentucky is building something special.
It’s still bowl game or bust, but Mark Stoops’ remarkable recruitment is paying off.
Benny Snell Jr. is proof.
