Kentucky Football: Eddie Gran Ready To Move On

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Kentucky football offensive coordinator Eddie Gran is ready to move on from the 44-35 loss to the Southern Miss Golden Eagles.

If only for a half, offensive coordinator Eddie Gran appeared to be the savior of the Kentucky football program. His offense produced overwhelming results as Drew Barker helped the Wildcats score 35 points through two quarters.

Though the game didn’t end in the most ideal of ways, Gran is learning from his mistakes and preparing Kentucky to move forward with its season.

Kentucky jumped out to a 35-10 lead in the first half, but allowed 34 consecutive points to end the game. The result was a 44-35 home loss to a team that looked out of its depths through two quarters.

According to Jon Hale of The Courier-Journal, offensive coordinator Eddie Gran is ready to move on from Kentucky’s loss.

“We’re moving on,” Gran said. “We have to, especially in this league. It doesn’t get any easier. You’ve got to put it behind you. There’s 12 more games left.

“There’s a lot of people out there today looking out, saying, ‘God, I wish we would’ve won.’ But you keep dealing with that, you’re going to have a serious problem. It’s about us, nobody else right now. It’s about Kentucky.”

That, “12 more games left,” comment is the most important of Gran’s quote.

Kentucky has 11 regular season games remaining on the schedule. The opponents are Florida, New Mexico State, South Carolina, Alabama, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Missouri, Georgia, Tennessee, Austin Peay, and Louisville.

Gran’s comment about having 12 games left implies that Kentucky will be playing in a bowl game this season.

That confidence will be crucial to the Wildcats becoming a contending team in 2016. Whether they’re 6-6, 7-5, or flirting with 10 wins, Kentucky needs to end its bowl drought.

For those unfamiliar, Kentucky hasn’t played in a bowl game since 2010.

Gran appears confident that it will this season.
