Kentucky Football: Mark Stoops To Recruit Danny Clark?

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Danny Clark has shockingly decommitted from the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Kentucky football program is showing interest in the quarterback.

The Kentucky football program may have just caught a break on the recruiting trails. As Drew Barker and Stephen Johnson struggle to establish themselves at quarterback, a highly-touted recruit may have just opened the door for Mark Stoops to make a big signing.

Danny Clark was as committed as possible to the Ohio State Buckeyes, but the divorce has occurred before the marriage could be finalized.

Clark, an Akron, Ohio native, has been a lifelong Buckeyes fan. He committed to Ohio State back in 2013, when he was told that the Buckeyes wouldn’t sign another quarterback in his recruiting class.

Ohio State breaking its word may have resulted in Clark’s recent decision to decommit.

According to Jon Hale of The Courier-Journal, the Wildcats are interested in bringing Clark to Lexington.

Ohio prep quarterback Danny Clark, a four-star prospect according to Scout.com, has decommitted from Ohio State and is receiving interest from Kentucky, a source confirmed to the Courier-Journal.

That would be a significant get for Mark Stoops.

ESPN and Scout have Clark listed as a four-star recruit. The pro-style quarterback is listed as a three-star recruit by Rivals and 247Sports.

Standing at 6’4″ and 225 pounds with a southpaw release and above-average accuracy. He has the athleticism to move the chains with his legs and the body to take a hit and keep moving.

Clark is somewhat raw, but with a physical build comparable to Dak Prescott, it’s hard not to be intrigued by his upside.

It’s possible that either Barker, a sophomore, or Johnson, a junior, will be the answer for Kentucky in the long run. If they aren’t, then it’ll be imperative for coach Stoops to find the player who is.

As an SEC school that’s relatively close to home, Kentucky could have a chance to sign Clark.
