Kentucky Football: This isn't just a basketball school anymore

Kentucky football is proving that the university is no longer just a basketball school — the Wildcats officially got their guy (again).

We're used to hearing about the top recruits in the country finding their way to Lexington, but that's usually in relation to the hardwood, not the gridiron. Don't look now, but quarterback Jarren Williams is headed to the Kentucky Wildcats to play craft his collegiate resume. This marks the end of a long road that began when Williams originally committed in June of 2016.

The hearts of every Wildcats fan sunk when Williams decided to decommit a month ago. He had to explore his newfound popularity. Just about every team in the SEC made their interest known. As it turns out, Kentucky did enough. Three weeks after changing his mind, Williams seems to have decided to follow his original instincts and play his college ball for Mark Stoops and company.

That's truly good news for an athletic department and a fan base eager to see its' football team take the next step.

A little background

The dual-threat signal caller is seen as a three-star prospect by 247Sports.com. He joins a recruiting class that includes three highly touted offensive linemen. At the time of this writing, Kentucky's 2018 class is seen as 21st in the country by 247Sports.com.

The Wildcats' 2016 season saw them stay in legitimate contention to win the SEC East for a while. The regular season ended on a high note as the Wildcats would take the measure of their rivals, the Louisville Cardinals. From there, they'd lose the 2016 TaxSlayer Bowl to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Even in that, there's something Stoops' Wildcats can build on.

They made it to a bowl game. Now they'll try to take the next step in 2017. They'll try to get back to another one and see if they can win it. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.
