Kentucky starting QB Patrick Towles announces plans to transfer
Once again the Wildcats' season fell apart down the stretch after a promising start, as Kentucky lost six of the last seven games following a 4-1 start. The 2014 team started 5-1 before dropping its last six games.
Now the first sign of wavering from within Mark Stoops' program has begun, as quarterback Patrick Towles -- starter of 22 of the last 24 Kentucky games -- has decided to transfer from the program:
Towles decision may have do with the coaching staff starting redshirt freshman Drew Barker for the final two games of the season. If Towles takes advantage of the graduate transfer rules in FBS, he will be eligible to play immediately next season without having to sit out a season.
Currently a redshirt junior, Towles' numbers declined significantly this season under Kentucky's first-year offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson. The quarterback threw for nine touchdowns, 14 interceptions and 2148 yards this season compared to 2014's numbers of 14 touchdowns, nine interceptions and 2718 passing yards.
