Kyle Allen admits midseason shoulder injury

Published Nov. 24, 2015 4:56 p.m. ET

Texas A&M sophomore quarterback Kyle Allen was off to the best start of his young career this season heading into the Alabama game, then the wheels fell off his season. Allen wasn't the first young quarterback to fall victim to a Nick Saban defense, but the young quarterback appeared to take it harder than most.

Allen threw three pick-six interceptions against the Tide and followed that performance up by completing 12 of 34 passes for 88 yards and an interception against Ole Miss in a 23-3 loss.

So what happened to cause such a drastic turn in his performance? According to Allen, his shoulder was hurt.

“My shoulder wasn’t 100 percent during that time,” Allen said. “I had an AC sprain in my shoulder. I told them I was good enough to play (at Ole Miss), and obviously it wasn’t 100 percent, but I want to be there for my team. I was the quarterback the entire year, I wasn't going to let them go into a hostile environment without me.

"I don't think in my entire life I'll ever think about taking myself out for an injury unless there's a bone sticking out."

Since resting his shoulder, Allen has returned to complete 24 of 42 passes for 421 yards and two touchdowns over the last two games. If the sophomore can have that kind of performance against LSU this weekend, the Aggies stand a great chance of beating the Tigers for the first time since entering the SEC.
