Kyrin Priester wins appeal, cleared to play for WSU

Published Aug. 18, 2015 2:16 p.m. ET

Wide receiver Kyrin Priester has won his appeal with the NCAA and will be eligible to play immediately for the Washington State Cougars this season.

Priester, who previously enrolled at Clemson, was a four-star recruit out of Georgia in 2013 and enrolled early at Clemson in 2014. He was one of the top receivers in the nation in his recruiting class.

Priester played one game for the Tigers before he was dismissed by head coach Dabo Swinney for "an attitude that is not acceptable to our standard."

Student-athletes who transfer from one FBS school to another are usually required to sit out a year, per NCAA rules. However, Washington State filed an appeal based on "run off" clause, which allows athletes who were forced to leave their previous team for reasons beyond their control to play immediate. However, the prior school must provide certain documentation to the NCAA.

In other words, if Priester turns out to be a star then Dabo is going to be owed a phone call.
