Lamar Jackson, Jabrill Peppers lead SI.com's 2016 Midseason All-America Team

A lot has changed through half of the 2016 college football season. Among the 26 players to make SI’s Preseason All-America Team, only 11 return to the Midseason All-America Team. Standouts like Louisville’s Lamar Jackson, the only unanimous selection to the Midseason All-America squad, didn’t even make the second team in the preseason.

While Jackson’s rise has gotten plenty of attention as he has helped lift Louisville into the ACC title and College Football Playoff races, some of the other big stars of the first half of the season have flown under the radar. Vanderbilt’s Zach Cunningham has been one of the most consistent playmakers on defense despite the Commodores’ 3–4 record. Arizona State’s Zane Gonzalez quietly set an NCAA record.

Still, on the whole, the All-America Team is dominated by players whose squads are in the thick of conference championship and playoff hunts. Ohio State led all teams with four players on the first team while Alabama, Michigan and Wisconsin each earned two representatives. The Big Ten topped all conferences with 10 of the 26 first-teamers while the SEC got seven, the Pac-12 four, the ACC three, and one each for the Big 12 and the Group of Five conferences.
