Latest Big Ten recruiting news: Elite WR Peoples-Jones set to announce decision
One of the top prospects in the country is set to announce his decision. Will he end up in the Big Ten? That and more in this week's notebook.
Prospect of the Week: Samson Evans
Prairie Ridge (Ill.) junior Samson Evans is this week's prospect of the week. He had a huge junior season and has been rewarded for it with several new offers including Iowa and Illinois. He rushed for 2,211 yards and 43 touchdowns and threw another 13 touchdowns this season. He rushed for a 6A state record 274 yards and four touchdowns in the state title game and could play a variety of positions in college
Prospect on the Rise: Deari Todd
Boston College received a commitment from Lorain (Ohio) Clearview defensive end DeAri Todd, a kid who was under the radar a bit during the season but had a long list of MAC offers. He is raw, but has a long, lean frame and athleticism. Whenever the Eagles have come to the Midwest, it seems like they come out with productive players and this kid has the upside to be the next on for them. He was recruited by some Big Ten schools like Michigan State who had him on an official and some others may still come in despite his commitment.
Underclassman of the Week: Coran Taylor
Peoria (Ill.) junior quarterback Coran Taylor also had a huge state title game. He rushed for three touchdowns and threw two in his team's big moment. A kid with a big arm and athleticism, some wondered when the first offer would come but the wait is over as Illinois offered and other schools are showing interest. Look for his recruitment to pick up now that the Illini are on board.
Commit Watch: Donovan Peoples-Jones
Detroit Cass Tech five-star wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones is set to announce his commitment on Thursday. Michigan remains the presumed choice, but efforts by Florida State and Ohio State, who both had him down for officials, have added some intrigue to the announcement. Whoever lands him is getting an explosive player with all the tools to play right away and also an outstanding student in the classroom.
