Latest musings from Wednesday SEC teleconference: Missouri
Mizzou head coach Gary Pinkel divulged a bit of information about his team during the SEC conference call on Wednesday morning.
J'Mon Moore and Nate Brown are starting at the "X" and "H" spots, respectively. Both are sophomores, yet remain the most experienced of the bunch with Wesley Leftwich out due to a knee injury.
"Moore has played quite a bit. We hopefully expect him to play at a pretty high level," said Pinkel. "Brown is a sophomore that played last year. Those are really the two most experienced players."
Pinkel in particular was excited about his young receiver corps. With Leftwich out due to injury, Missouri features a very inexperienced two-deep. Both competitors at the "Z-Receiver" spot (Keyon Dilosa, DeSean Blair) are redshirt freshmen.
Fellow redshirt freshman Thomas Richard and true freshman Emanuel Hall are also ensconced within the second unit.
"The rest of them are freshmen and redshirt freshmen. I really like the kids. I think they're very athletic."
Pinkel says Drew Lock's usage Saturday will be a #ThursdayDecision

Thursday also appears to be day in which the staff will decide whether freshman signal-caller Drew Lock will play in Saturday's opener versus Southeast Missouri State. As Pinkel said, "[Lock] is working very hard. We haven't really discussed it at all. Thursday is when we'll do that."
Lastly, the arena of disrespect was brought up. Despite Missouri winning back-to-back SEC East Division Titles, the Tigers were predicted to finish third in the division by the media in July.
While his players might care about the external opinions of others, Pinkel has opted to focus elsewhere.
"I don't know if that's necessarily true. I think my players might talk about it more. I don't ever talk about it."
