Likely NFL destinations for former Mississippi State standouts
The Bulldogs achieved unprecendented success last season on the strength of several key seniors and redshirt juniors. With their time in Starkville at an end, these players are set to embark on the next chapter of their football careers in the NFL.
Local reporters from the Clarion Ledger recently gave some insight into where they think the former Bulldogs could land.
Benardrick McKinney
Mississippi State's defensive play caller last season, McKinney excels as a run stopping inside linebacker. At 246 lbs, McKinney may be too large to stay on the field in passing situations in the NFL, but his knowledge and leadership combine with his ability to make an outstanding early down linebacker.
McKinney's likely NFL destinations: Green Bay Packers, New York Jets, New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings.
Preston Smith
Smith exploded onto the scene this season, as he was awarded SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week three consecutive weeks in a row early into his final season in Starkville. Look for Smith to make an ideal 3-4 lineman who will hold up against the run and possesses the ability to rush the passer when called upon.
Smith's likely NFL destinations: New England Patriots, Tennessee Titans and Oakland Raiders.
Other possible late-round selections from Mississippi State include: running back Josh Robinson, defensive lineman Kaleb Eulls, safety Justin Cox, linebacker Matt Wells and offensive lineman Ben Beckwith.
