Lock off to fast start for Mizzou
Although he's played in one collegiate game, quarterback Drew Lock looks like the real deal.
The true freshman went 6-of-10 for 138 yards and a touchdown in his debut versus Southeast Missouri State. Lock demonstrated poise, moxie, above-average arm strength, and all of the tools needed to one day become a fixture at the position.
It will be fascinating to see how this quarterback competition will play out. Redshirt junior Maty Mauk is the unquestioned starter. His experience and complete body of work clearly won him the job.
With that said, head coach Gary Pinkel has had a propensity to play two quarterbacks throughout his coaching tenure in Columbia. A highly-touted recruit out of high school, Lock looks primed to capitalize on the said playing time.
If he continues to play well, Pinkel may have to decide which quarterback will lead the offense the most effectively.
For now, a two-quarterback system appears to be the call for the foreseeable future.
