Louisville Football: A very early Duke football preview

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Louisville football is currently on their bye week, but we are still going to take a look at that kind of team Duke will bring to town on the 14th.

Louisville football has a little extra time off to get rid of the bad taste in their mouths from the loss to Clemson. If they can get rid of those emotions or at least channel them correctly, the Duke football team is about to take a brutal loss in Papa Johns Cardinal Stadium on October 14th.

Duke has started the 2016 season, losing three of their first five games. With a 2-3 record, the Blue Devils will face Army at 3:30pm this coming Saturday afternoon.

Here is Duke’s win/loss record by game this season:

NC Central at Duke: Win, 49-6

Wake Forest at Duke: Loss, 24-14

Duke at Northwestern: Loss, 24-13

Duke at Notre Dame: Win, 38-35

Virginia at Duke: Loss, 34-20

This hasn’t been a great start to the season for Duke, but they did pick up a good win on the road against Notre Dame. That is always a tough place to play, even when the Irish aren’t playing like champions that day.

Duke is also currently sitting in 6th place in the ACC’s Coastal division where they should be hanging around all season long. Blue Devil freshman quarterback Daniel Jones will face his biggest test of the season when he comes to Louisville. In his last game against Virginia, he threw for 324 yards, but also tossed a terrible five interceptions.

If the Cardinals can find a way to get pressure and collapse the pocket, Jones could have another multiple interception day. I don’t expect this game to be close and it’s definitely not the quality of a basketball game between the two schools.

This is going to be a great game for Lamar Jackson to throw for another five touchdowns and keep padding his Heisman-worthy 2016 campaign.
