Louisville Football: Potential Top-15 NFL Draft Pick Speaks on Lamar Jackson

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 1:25 p.m. ET

We take a look at what one of the best safeties in the country had to say about Louisville football quarterback Lamar Jackson.

This game between the Louisville football team and the LSU Tigers is one that has many stars in the mix. Lamar Jackson just won the Heisman Trophy, Leonard Fournette (who won’t play) is going to be a top ten draft pick, and LSU safety Jamal Adams will be a first rounder as well.

However, that doesn’t mean that everyone is numb to who the best football player on the field is going to be in the Citrus Bowl.

Lamar Jackson will have all eyes on him after just winning the most-coveted award in all of college sports earlier this month. It’s going to be a tough take to beat the Tigers, but that doesn’t mean it’s not possible.

What we do know, is that Jackson has the attention of one of the best defensive football players in the country.

This is what Tigers’ safety Jamal Adams had to say about Louisville’s Heisman Trophy winner, according to David Ching’s article from ESPN:

“Let’s just put it like this: You can’t stop him, you can control him, and that’s what we’re after,” LSU safety Jamal Adams said. “We know he’s going to make a lot of plays. We know that he’s an outstanding player. He wouldn’t have won the Heisman if he wasn’t. But not only is he good at scrambling, he reads defenses, he looks down the field, he keeps his eyes up when he scrambles, and that’s what makes him dangerous as his receivers scatter around.”

Adams brings up a great point heading into the Citrus Bowl. Lamar Jackson does a fantastic job of keeping his eyes downfield when he starts to scramble, however what he didn’t mention what Jackson’s struggles against the blitz.

The Houston game is one that will be in all of our minds for a while and it surely will be with Bobby Petrino forever. Louisville’s offensive line played terrible, but Jackson didn’t do himself any favors by staring the defensive lineman in the eyes whenever they were breaking through the line of scrimmage.

If he would have kept his eyes downfield, he would have seen some opportunities to get rid of the football.

LSU will bring in a defense that is much better than anything Houston threw at them last month, therefore Lamar Jackson must be ready to face some major pressure, while keeping his options open downfield.
