LSU Tigers Get Favorable Ranking In First Playoff Poll

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Tuesday night, the College Football Playoff Committee unveiled their first top 25 rankings of the 2016 season. We really weren’t sure what to expect in terms of where LSU would fall in the first rankings. The Tigers were put 15th and 14th in the Associated Press top 25 and Coaches Poll respectively, and their positioning improves even more as the Committee has them as the 13th best team in college football.

For the LSU Tigers, it has been an absolute whirlwind of a season. This team came into 2016 ranked in the top five with expectations to win the conference championship and contend for a spot in the College Football Playoffs.

Just a few weeks into the season, the Tigers had lost twice, were unranked, and had fired one of the winningest coaches in the school’s prestigious history. LSU had done nothing but disappoint all year long, and after falling out of the rankings and making a coaching change,  no one expected anything out of this team.

But, here we are, just over midway through the season, and the Ed Orgeron-led LSU Tigers are right back in contention. They control their own destiny in both the conference and national picture, and at this point the Tigers are probably the hottest team in all of college football.

Orgeron and his staff have done an absolutely fantastic job of turning this team around. We all knew how talented this team was, but the results just weren’t there under the previous staff. Coach O has been able to get the most out of the players on his team, and the positive effects are already showing themselves.
