Luke Falk takes lead in race for Cougars QB job

Published Apr. 30, 2015 5:40 p.m. ET

While Washington State head coach won't reveal his thoughts about the ongoing battle for the Cougars QB job, the teams spring game speaks for itself.

Luke Falk, a rising sophomore, completed 26-of-33 passes for 323 yards and two touchdowns in the Cougars spring game, easily outpacing redshirt freshman Peyton Bender. Bender is likely to get a shot at the starting gig come preseason; however, the job is clearly Falk's to lose at this point.

Falk, who started the final three games for Washington State last season, will have big shoe to fill at QB up in Pullman. Connor Halliday, one of the most decorated passers in NCAA history, is on his way to the NFL. It's Falk's show, even if Mike Leach won't admit as much until late August.
