Mandel's Heisman Top 5: Boykin isn't only dual-threat QB on the radar after Week 5
Nobody wins the Heisman in October, but one guy continues to stand far and away at the top of the pack.
1. Leonard Fournette, RB, LSU: The nation’s rushing leader figured to enjoy another huge game against overmatched Eastern Michigan, and indeed, he topped his own 213-yard season average with 233 yards on 26 carries, his third straight 200-yard game.
2. Trevone Boykin, QB, TCU: Texas’ woeful defense stood no chance against TCU’s masterful signal-caller, who completed 20-of-35 throws for 332 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions in a 50-7 Horned Frogs rout.
3. Myles Garrett, DE, Texas A&M: The sophomore continues to display his dominance for the Aggies, posting a sack, two tackles for loss, a forced fumble and a pass batted down in holding Dak Prescott-led Mississippi State to 17 points.
4. Nick Chubb, RB, Georgia: Chubb took it on the chin for most of the Dawgs’ humbling 38-10 loss to Alabama but did break off an 83-yard touchdown run late in the game. That gave him 146 yards on 20 carries, his school-record 13th straight 100-yard game.
5. Greg Ward Jr., QB, Houston: Cougar coach Tom Herman is developing yet another stud dual-threat quarterback. Ward racked up 273 passing yards, 182 rushing yards and three touchdowns against Tulsa. Houston improved to 4-0.
