Mark Stoops' tenure at Kentucky hanging in the balance
It's an interesting time in the Mark Stoops' era currently whilst at Kentucky.
After going 2-10 in his first year, the Wildcats improved to 5-7 during his second campaign. Heading into 2015, the thought was Kentucky could turn the proverbial corner and make some noise in the SEC East Division -- if not make a bowl appearance.
This was in large part due to the job Stoops and his staff have done in the realm of recruiting. He has a young, but talented roster featuring multiple players with good potential.
With that said, Kentucky is currently sitting at 4-6 -- one loss away from losing out on another potential bowl game.
The trend of improvement -- or the lack thereof -- is an issue. After staring the season 5-1, Kentucky lost its last six games. In '15, it began the year with promise -- going 4-1. However since, the Wildcats have dropped five in a row.
This is something Stoops will need to improve upon next season. While his job likely isn't in jeopardy this offseason, there's no excuse in his fourth year within the program. Virtually all of the players will be athletes he's personally recruited, and improvement from a record standpoint is almost imperative. The lack of a bowl appearance in 2016 would be a crippling development for this program attempting to vault itself into relevance within the East Division.
