Maryland Football: D.J. Durkin updates status on several Terps
Coach D.J. Durkin held his weekly teleconference with the media on Monday.
Durkin touched on a variety of topics, including updating the status of several injured Terrapins.
In Maryland’s 30-24 double overtime win over Central Florida, quarterback Perry Hills suffered a shoulder injury on the Terps first play of the second overtime. He carried the ball for a one-yard gain, but hurt his shoulder on the play.
Hills was taken out of the game and backup Tyrrell Pigrome entered the game. Pigrome carried the ball for the game-winning 24-yard touchdown to send the Terps home with a 3-0 record.
On Monday, Durkin announced that Hills is “day-to-day” and will continued to be monitored following the injury.
Hills wasn’t the only one to suffer an injury against the Knights on Saturday.
Safety Denzel Conyers suffered a leg injury during the second half. Durkin said that Conyers was going to undergo an MRI on Monday.
This is the second time that Conyers has been injured over the last month. On August 18, Conyers was hospitalized after a concussion during a practice in fall camp.
During the first three games of the season, Conyers registered 13 tackles (11 solo) and has been a stabilizing force in the defensive backfield.
Luckily, the Terps will have time to try and get healthy.
Maryland has a bye this week before beginning Big Ten play against Purdue on Oct. 1. The game will be played at Maryland Stadium.
If Hills isn’t ready to go, it’s clear that Maryland can depend on Pigrome to run the offense if needed.
