Maryland Football: Joshua Kaindoh decommits from Maryland
Maryland landed a big fish in the form of five-star Joshua Kaindoh back in Apirl.
On Monday evening, Kaindoh announced that he has decommitted from the Terrapins after days of speculation.
The decommitment came fresh off of Kaindoh’s official visit to Penn State. He visited Happy Valley this past weekend and has another official at Georgia lined up for Dec. 2.
Kaindoh had reaffirmed his pledge to Maryland several times since April. In addition to Penn State, the IMG Academy (Fla.) standout also visited Florida State back on Oct. 14.
According to Ahmed Ghafir of InsideMDSports, Kaindoh’s recruitment could come down to the Alabama, Florida State, and Penn State. D.J. Durkin and his staff will likely continue to pursue Kaindoh, but it appears that it’s very unlikely that he rejoins Maryland’s class.
The star defensive end will announce his decision at the Under Armour All-American Game on Jan. 1.
Maryland still boasts a very strong recruiting class despite Kaindoh’s decommitment. It’s led by St. John’s College quarterback Kasim Hill and Potomac cornerback Deon Jones.
In terms of the defensive line, the Terps have pledges from Kaindoh’s former teammate Cam Spence and St. Frances Academy (Md.) defensive end B’Ahmad Miller. Spence has also been connected to the Nittany Lions and visited this past weekend as well.
Spence did tweet that his commitment to Maryland is strong despite the recent rumors.
The St. John’s College standout is one of Maryland’s higher rated recruits in the class, so his commitment is extremely important. Spence is rated as a top 20 defensive tackle.
Durkin and his staff certainly didn’t want to hear news like this, but it’s early enough in the class that there’s still options available. With the way he recruits, it’s still very likely that the Terps end up with a strong class.
A bowl game victory next month also wouldn’t hurt Maryland’s cause on the recruiting trail.
