Maryland Football: Perry Hills listed as starter on depth chart
It appears that Perry Hills could start against Purdue on Saturday.
On Monday evening, Maryland released their depth chart for their against the Boilermakers. Hills was listed as the team’s starting quarterback with Tyrrell Pigrome firmly entrenched as the backup.
Coach D.J. Durkin will speak to the media on Tuesday afternoon, so more could be learned at that time.
Hills suffered an injured shoulder in the second overtime period of Maryland’s 30-24 win over Central Florida on Sept. 17. Pigrome ended up having to come into the game and rushed for the game-winning 24-yard touchdown.
In three games this season, Hills has completed 61.7 percent (37-of-60) of his passes. He also tossed three touchdowns while rushing for one.
The most important part of Hills’ performance has been the absence of turnovers. He hasn’t thrown an interception or fumbled the ball.
Hills is coming off a 2015 season in which he completed 50 percent (90-of-180) of his passes. He also threw 13 of the team’s nation-leading 29 interceptions.
In addition to Hills remaining the starting quarterback, a key offensive position had a new face on the depth chart.
Senior Wes Brown was listed as a backup running back behind Trey Edmunds, Kenneth Goins Jr., and Ty Johnson. Freshmen Jake Funk and Lorenzo Harrison are the backups along with Brown.
Brown missed the first three games due to a suspension from the Randy Edsall regime that Durkin honored.
In 2015, Brown rushed for 317 yards and three touchdowns on 71 carries. He had 13 receptions as well.
Brown should provide even more depth to a position that is already one of the team’s biggest strengths.
