Maryland Football: 'Red Ops' uniforms to debut against Ohio State

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The Maryland football team certainly isn’t expected to beat Ohio State this coming Saturday.

However, that doesn’t mean that the Terrapins aren’t going to look good.

On Monday, Maryland announced on Twitter that they are introducing “Red Ops” for Saturday’s game against Ohio State.

It’s the first new uniform since the 2015 game against Penn State in Baltimore.

The Terps wore their “Flashback Uniforms” which honored the 1961 team that was the only group that beat the Nittany Lions at home. Maryland lost a close contest to Penn State by a 31-30 result.

The “Red Ops” are the third installment of the “Ops” series. Maryland first introduced the Black and White Ops four seasons ago in 2012.

The White Ops debuted against West Virginia in Morgantown on Sept. 22, 2012 during a 31-21 loss. It was the game where Stefon Diggs was a human highlight reel as he totaled 113 yards and two touchdowns.

The “Black Ops” were first seen against Florida State in a 41-14 drubbing with Shawn Petty at quarterback. The end of the 2012 campaign was one to forget as Maryland dropped their final six games on their way to a 4-8 record.

These “Red Ops” certainly are very appealing to the eye.

The Terps host the Buckeyes for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff on Saturday afternoon. Maryland Stadium may have a little bit of extra juice for the game with these styling uniforms.

Fans can only hope this debut doesn’t follow the trend of uniforms past.
