Maryland Football: Stefon Diggs making Pro Bowl case
Stefon Diggs may have been the steal of the 2015 NFL Draft.
A little over a full calendar year later, Diggs is making his case for his first Pro Bowl.
On Sunday, Diggs and the Minnesota Vikings posted a very powerful video on Twitter to help Diggs’ case for the annual all-star game. That came just days after the former Terrapin caught all eight of his targets for 59 yards against the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday evening.

Diggs has already surpassed his rookie numbers with another month of the season still to play. He currently has 75 receptions for 806 yards and two touchdowns.
The former Good Counsel (Md.) star is currently 21st in terms of receiving yards. However, just 74 yards separate Diggs from the wideout with the eighth most yards, which is Larry Fitzgerald of the Arizona Cardinals.
It’s also worth noting that Diggs averages 80.6 yards-per-game, which is more than Fitzgerald and the wideouts that ranked from Nos. 9-20. That group also includes the likes of Doug Baldwin, Jordy Nelson, Terrelle Pryor, Emmanuel Sanders, and former teammate Mike Wallace.
Diggs has topped the century mark in three games this season. His best came against the hometown Washington Redskins when he hauled in 13 passes for 164 yards in a 26-20 Vikings loss.
He has also caught nine passes of 20-plus yards on the season.
Diggs will always be a downfield threat, but he’s caught quite a few intermediate passes to help move the chains. He’s definitely benefitted from the play of quarterback Sam Bradford, who was acquired prior to the start of the season.
He was Minnesota’s only wide receiver that was a threat until Adam Thielen broke out. Regardless, Diggs is still the top option for Bradford.
In just 23 career games, Diggs has recorded 127 receptions for 1,526 yards and six touchdowns. He fumbled twice during his rookie campaign, but has yet to cough up the football in 2016.
Diggs is definitely a superstar in the making and should’ve been higher than a fifth round pick. Inconsistent quarterback play and Randy Edsall’s struggles were two of the biggest reasons that Diggs wasn’t noticed as much by NFL scouts.
It was evident this past season how the development has been lacking with the wideouts. After transferring to Syracuse, Amba Etta-Tawo broke single-season records as he caught 94 passes for 1,482 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Diggs certainly is going to be in the conversation for the Pro Bowl, especially if he continues to put up the kind of number he has been.
