Maryland Football: Two Terps charged in BB gun incident

The Maryland football team are dealing with issue off the field in addition to on it.

On Wednesday, the College Park Police Department announced that running back Lorenzo Harrison and wideout D.J. Turner were charged in an incident that involved shooting BB guns on campus.

Harrison and Turner were charged with three counts of second-degree assault and three counts of reckless endangerment. The two were also charged with one count of violating Maryland ED-26-101, which prohibits attacks like this on campus property.

Coach D.J. Durkin had suspended linebacker Antoine Brooks, Harrison, and Turner indefinitely prior to last Saturday’s game against Ohio State.

Harrison was one of Maryland’s most exciting players during the 2016 season. The former DeMatha (Md.) standout has rushed for 633 yards and five touchdown while averaging 7.2 yards-per-carry.

He is currently second on the team in rushing behind Ty Johnson, who has 656 yards and four touchdowns.

Turner has played sparingly throughout the season. He has caught just two passes for 19 yards while carrying the ball once for four yards.

It’s unclear how long Harrison or Turner will be suspended.

Maryland has two games remaining on their schedule after back-to-back blowout losses at the hands of Michigan and Ohio State. The Terps travel to Lincoln to take on Nebraska and face Rutgers at home in the regular season finale on Nov. 26.

Both games are noon kickoffs.

The Terps are currently 5-5 (2-5 Big Ten) and are in fifth place in the East Division of the conference.
