Meyer admits peace with Ohio State QBs heading into week off

Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer seemed to get exasperated a few times during the first eight weeks of the season as the quarterback questions continued nearly nonstop.

After J.T. Barrett put up 324 total yards and five touchdowns Saturday night at Rutgers in his first start of the season, Meyer admitting to feeling at peace with the situation at last.

"It really does," the coach said before adding, "I don't want to admit that."

He was happy not only with Barrett's dominating start but also the fact Cardale Jones, who started the first seven games of this season for the top-ranked Buckeyes after starting all three games of their national championship postseason last year, got into the game late.

"Cardale comes in and goes 3 for 3 (passing)," Meyer said. "His mentality was good, he’s working. He’s a rookie, too. These guys are not the established three-, four-year starters.

"One (Barrett) is a sophomore and one (Jones) is 10-0 as a starter. I just want to see those guys continue to get better and better and better and they are. It might not maybe be at the speed with the noise out there, but they’re still young quarterbacks and it’s very important for Cardale to continue to grow and obviously J.T., he gets better every time he goes out and practices."

The Buckeyes have next weekend off before playing host to Minnesota.
