Miami Hurricanes Fans Love Editing Recruiting Videos

In the competitive world of college football recruiting, colleges have utilized editing pictures and highlight videos with personal team flair to garner the attention of high school recruits.

Die hard Miami Hurricanes fans are also present on the editing forefront willing to lend their passion and talent. I searched Twitter high and low to find talented underground editing artists who are continuously pushing the envelope of creative and new ideas.

In terms of photo editing one individual’s work has continuously caught my eye. Over 1,800 Miami Hurricanes fans follow @CanesEDIT. He was willing to share his story. His heartfelt passion for the University of Miami was as crystal clear as the orange and green seamless edited masterpieces he creates.

Thanks for meeting up with me @canesEDIT. So how long have you been at the edit game? No problem man. You can call me Edit. I started around late November in 2014.

You can tell you have intense passion in your work. Why do you do it? I do it because I was brought into Canes nation by a good friend and Canes fan legend named Chris Johnson. (Nicknamed CMAR). When he passed in 2013 I wanted to do something to honor his memory and find a way to say thanks for bringing me into the Hurricane culture.

I was always a Canes fan but never dove in deep with recruiting, getting to know players strengths and weaknesses, etc. So every edit I do is a tribute to Chris as I try to uphold his memory.

You probably get some crazy requests from recruits who are fans of you work. Any unique requests you are willing to share? Yes. I have. I’ve had some pretty high profile recruits want total jersey swaps and transition jerseys from high school to college. A lot of those can get very complicated.

What is your favorite edit that you have done to date? My favorite piece to this day is my wide receiver U piece featuring Sam Bruce, Ahmmon Richards and Dionte Mullins. I put the area codes underneath them and photos of their game play in the back.

The edit meshes were so perfect. Its the first time I think we landed the top wide receiver from Dade, Broward and Palm Beach County so I was paying homage to the moment.

I am a big fan of your work Mitch. So why did you get into the world of recruiting and player videos? I’ve always been a big fan of sports editing. I originally started off with basketball at a young age, but being the Canes fan that I am, I eventually made the natural transition to football and recruiting.

How long have you been at it? I’ve been at it since 2008, started as a hobby whilst I was at school and it’s grown from there.

You probably have some crazy edit equipment then. What is your setup? About a year ago I upgraded my set up. I originally did all my work on my MacBook. But as things got more serious I invested in a custom built iMac that meets all my editing needs. As for my editing program I run Final Cut Pro.

How is it that a Miami fan is in Australia? Have you ever been attacked by a Kangaroo? Funny story and pretty unique. I was born in Australia and spent some time in the U.S. at a really young age before moving back to Australia to be with family. My dad being the Cane fan that he is brainwashed me at a young age and that was that. And no. I can’t say I’ve ever been attacked by a Kangaroo. Haha.

How do recruits usually hit you up for a video in a cycle? Any crazy stories regarding that? A few recruits a week hit me up. Things have certainly picked up since I made my first Jeff Thomas edit. I dropped that at about 12 a.m. Australian time and woke up the next morning with over 40 messages from recruits. Pretty crazy stuff.

You probably get entrusted with a recruit’s commitment choice even before coaches then sometimes? That has happened a few times but of course I’ve always kept it to myself. Many editors get entrusted with that info and then it gets out. That’s something I will make sure will never happens with me.
