Miami RB Yearby wants to star as a player and a dad

Miami’s Joseph Yearby doesn’t have a crystal ball, but the rising sophomore running back doesn’t need one to know that his future lies with his children.

According to an article by CBS, Yearby, whose father is in jail awaiting trial, has a three-year old son and a daughter that was born earlier this year.

The pressure of having to take care of two children, academic responsibilities and football can be a lot, but Yearby said no matter what happens he will be around to raise his children.

“My dad wasn’t there for me. He ran in the streets, he did what he had to do but he still wasn’t there,” Yearby told CBS. “He never spent time with me, never even threw a football with me, not once that I can recall. I just want to show my kids a different life and make sure they know that their dad loves them and that I’m there.”

Yearby continued.

“My kids will know I was there,” Yearby told CBS. “If I know what I’m doing, if I don’t know what I’m doing, I’m going to be there either way. I’m going to be there for my kids. I’m going to be there for my team.”

Yearby, who rushed for 509 yards and one touchdown last season, took some time away from the team before fall camp started and said that he is happy to be back.

“When I was away from the team I was missing it, every day, every hour,” Yearby told CBS. “The good thing about my team is they don’t ask a lot of questions. They’re just glad I’m back.”
