Michigan Football: Jabrill Peppers, Jourdan Lewis Finalists For Awards
As Michigan football gears up to face Ohio State this weekend and pursue its team goals, individual Wolverines are in line to receive awards for their play.
This weekend, Michigan football will face one of its most impactful tests in years. Beat Ohio State on the road, and the Wolverines go on to the Big Ten title game with a chance to compete in the College Football Playoff.
That’s surely the main focus for both the team and fans. But at the end of this season, multiple Michigan players could be receiving individual awards for their play throughout the year.
The National College Football Awards Association released a list of finalists for most awards, and three Wolverines made the cut.
Headlining the list is Jabrill Peppers, who was named a finalist for three awards: the Bednarik Award and Bronko Nagurski Trophy (most outstanding defensive player), as well as the Maxwell Award (best overall player).

Peppers, who has played a number of positions for the Wolverines this season, is the first Maxwell Award finalist from Michigan since Charles Woodson. He’s obviously also hoping to make a run at the Heisman Trophy.
Jourdan Lewis is the other defenseman from Michigan to appear as a finalist. He’s up for the Jim Thorpe Award, which goes to the nation’s best defensive back. The other two finalists are Adoreé Jackson (USC) and Tre’Davious White (LSU).
Lewis, who missed the first three games of the season because of an injury, became the Wolverines’ all-time leader in pass breakups last weekend with 44. Quarterbacks have only completed 8 passes on 31 attempts this season against Lewis.
Jake Butt is also a finalist for the John Mackey Award, given to the nation’s best tight end. O.J. Howard (Alabama) and Jordan Leggett (Clemson) were also named finalists.
Butt has 38 catches for 460 yards and 4 touchdowns this season.
All of these awards will be announced in Atlanta on Dec. 8.
