Michigan Football Recruiting: A Consequential Week Awaits

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

It’s going to be one of the most consequential weeks in recent memory for Michigan football on the recruiting trail, and it starts Wednesday night.

Starting Wednesday night, one of the most consequential recruiting stretches will take off for Michigan football.

WR Tarik Black

It starts with four-star wide receiver Tarik Black (Cheshire, Connecticut), who will be committing on Wednesday in front of his classmates at Cheshire Academy. Black is rated by 247Sports as the No. 1 prospect in Connecticut and the No. 29 wide receiver overall.

The 247Sports Crystal Ball favors Michigan at 95 percent. Auburn is at 5 percent. Recruiting reporters are fairly confident Black will be choosing the Wolverines on Wednesday, becoming the second receiver to join the 2017 class.

WR Donovan Peoples-Jones

Following Black is one of the most coveted pieces of talent in this recruiting class: Donovan Peoples-Jones.

Peoples-Jones (Detroit) is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 1 player in the state of Michigan and the No. 1 wide receiver in the class. He’s been elusive on the recruiting trail, but he did confirm on Twitter that he’ll be committing Thursday night around 8:30 EST on ESPN.

Peoples-Jones is the top uncommitted player on Michigan’s board. The 247Sports Crystal Ball favors the Wolverines at 94 percent. Michigan State and Florida each have 3 percent. If he chooses Michigan, he’ll become the first five-star commit for the Wolverines.

OT Isaiah Wilson

Good luck finding a more impressive physique in this 2017 class. If things work out as expected, Isaiah Wilson (Brooklyn, New York) could become the second five-star player to commit to Michigan in as many days. (247Sports lists him as a four-star prospect).

Wilson will be making his decision around noon on Friday. He originally hinted at a Christmas Day commitment.

Wilson is rated as the No. 1 prospect in New York and the No. 12 offensive tackle in the class. The 247 Crystal Ball predictions have Michigan at 77 percent, followed by Alabama at 19 percent and Rutgers at 4 percent. (Perhaps you’re noticing a theme here: Michigan is heavily favored with all these prospects.)

C Cesar Ruiz

The 6-foot-3, 315-pound Cesar Ruiz (Bradenton, Florida) is another enormous physical presence on the offensive line that Michigan’s chasing. Ruiz, a four-star prospect, is rated as the No. 11 player in Florida and the No. 1 center in the 2017 class.

Michigan is only the team represented in the 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions, getting 100 percent of the vote, and that’s with 32 predictions.

Ruiz is set to announce his decision on Sunday.
