Michigan Football: Tarik Black Kicks off Monster Recruiting Week
Michigan football got a four-star wide receiver on Wednesday, kicking off what could become a fantastic recruiting week for the Wolverines.
This week could see Michigan football land four big-time recruits for the 2017 recruiting class, and it got started with four-star wide receiver Tarik Black (Cheshire, Connecticut) choosing the Wolverines.
Black, ranked by 247Sports as the No. 1 prospect in the state of Connecticut, chose Michigan over the likes of Stanford, UCLA and Auburn, among others.
What Michigan is getting with Black is a big X receiver. At 6-foot-4, 208 pounds, he would already be tied with Drake Harris as the second tallest receiver on the Wolverines’ roster. (Freshman Simeon Smith is 6-foot-6.)

The potential for Black to be a big matchup problem for college cornerbacks is an attractive one, and it’s something Michigan hasn’t explicitly enjoyed in a while.
“He can run, he has incredible ball skills and route running ability,” said Dave Dykeman, who coaches Black at Cheshire Academy. “His ability to get in and out of his routes, his ability to catch the football in space, you are getting a prolific receiver without question.”
The 247Sports recruiting rankings moved Michigan from No. 9 to No. 7 with Black’s verbal commitment.
By next Monday, though, it’s perfectly reasonable to think the Wolverines could be as high as No. 4. Black was only the first of four major potential commitments Michigan could receive this week.
The next one could come tomorrow night, when five-star receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones (Detroit) announces his commitment decision on ESPN around 8:30 p.m. EST. Peoples-Jones is the highest ranked uncommitted prospect on Michigan’s board.
On Friday, four-star offensive tackle Isaiah Wilson (Brooklyn, New York) will be committing around noon.
Then on Sunday, four-star center Cesar Ruiz will be committing.
The 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions indicate Michigan is a heavy favorite to land all three.
