Michigan-Maryland kickoff moved up to noon to avoid storm

Published Oct. 1, 2015 12:52 p.m. ET

The Big Ten Conference announced Thursday that the game between Michigan and Maryland on Saturday at College Park, Maryland, will kick off at noon rather than in prime-time.

The game was to be an 8 p.m. start, but the change was made in anticipation of weather issues related to Hurricane Joaquin hitting the area this weekend.

"The weather experts are still dealing with uncertain probabilities for the course of Hurricane Joaquin," interim Michigan director of athletics Jim Hackett said in a statement from the school. "Thus we remain vigilant on developments and will err on the side of safety for all participants and fans."

In addition, the Big Ten Network announced Nebraska's game at Illinois will kick off at 4:02 p.m. ET instead of 3:30.
