Michigan promotes key recruiter Partridge to full-time position

Michigan announced Thursday it has promoted Chris Partridge to linebackers and special teams coach.

Partridge spent the past year as the "director of player personnel in recruiting," a staff position that is not one of the nine full-time assistants jobs.

He was a New Jersey high school coach prior to being hired by head coach Jim Harbaugh in January 2015, and he is considered a key figure in Harbaugh's successful recruitment of the Garden State.

The Wolverines already have four New Jersey natives in their 2016 class, including early enrollees Kareem Walker and Ahmir Mitchell. Walker is a five-star running back from DePaul Catholic while Mitchell is a four-star receiver from Egg Harbor Cedar Creek.

Michigan is also widely considered the front-runner for five-star defensive tackle Rashan Gary, the No. 1 prospect in the country and a senior at Paramus Catholic -- the school at which Partridge used to be the head coach.

"Chris has a proven track record as a successful coach," Harbaugh said in a news release. "He has brought a lot of energy and enthusiasm to his work as our director of player personnel. I know that same passion will be exhibited in his work with our student-athletes."

Partridge served as linebackers coach on an interim basis during bowl practice after defensive coordinator DJ Durkin left to become head coach at Maryland.

"I came to Michigan because I wanted to work with the best and learn from the best," Partridge said. "I couldn't have a better mentor than Coach Harbaugh, who shares my vision that the student-athletes come first. I am honored by his confidence and for the opportunity to continue to serve this incredibility institution."
