Michigan State Football: Brian Lewerke could miss time with knee injury

Michigan State football quarterback Brian Lewerke injured his knee on Saturday and might be out for an extended period of time.

Michigan State football’s redshirt freshman quarterback Brian Lewerke was a bright spot against Michigan, throwing for 100 yards and a touchdowns on 6-for-10 passing on just two drives in the fourth quarter.

That all came before he was injured on a sack by Jabrill Peppers. Lewerke left the field without putting any weight on his left leg and did not return. That’s never a good sign for a player, especially when it’s something dealing with a knee

Unfortunately for Michigan State fans, Lewerke maybe be out for quite a while. I actually spotted Lewerke at Cracker Barrell in Okemos Sunday morning wearing what looked to be a post-operative knee brace, indicating he is either recovering from or awaiting surgery, likely as a result of a ligament injury.

The first things that come to mind are meniscus, MCL or ACL. The latter of the three is the one that could set him back big time and keep him out until the summer. If that’s the case, he’d likely be out past the spring game in April.

Lewerke was by far the most succesful Spartan quarterback to play against Michigan, after O’Connor started the game and Damion Terry also played earlier in the fourth before also being injured.

With the Spartans now forced to win all four of their remaining games to become bowl eligible, having their best quarterback sidelined will now make that task even more challenging.
