Michigan State football playing the Ed Davis waiting game
Michigan State football is currently playing the Ed Davis waiting game, and it’s becoming very frustrating.
Sitting, hoping and wishing. That’s basically all Michigan State football and Ed Davis can do right now as they await the appeal for a sixth year of eligibility.

Davis was one of the key members of a 2014 Spartan team that went 11-2 and won the Cotton Bowl over an offensive power in Baylor. That bowl win happened to be one of the best comebacks in school history as MSU found itself down by 20-plus points in the second half before storming back.
During that junior season of his, Davis finished with 58 total tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, two pass deflections and a forced fumble. He was an aggressor and made offenses pay for not keeping an eye on him.

The blitzing linebacker injured his knee right before the start of his senior season and missed the entire 2015 campaign. It looked like his MSU career might be over, but he decided to finish some classes and apply for a sixth year of eligibility.
Finishing up near the end of the summer and a couple of weeks before the Furman game, Davis felt good about hearing back quickly and getting onto the field. However, weeks have since passed and Michigan State is already 1-0, but no sign of Davis on the field last Friday.
The sixth-year linebacker is allowed to practice with the team, so he’s in solid shape and his knee is getting stronger, but not being able to contribute during live action is rough.
According to Jeremy Warnemuende of 247Sports, Mark Dantonio is expecting to hear back from the NCAA this week, and he believes it will be positive news.
“I would expect to hear something this week,” Dantonio said when asked if he had received any indications on a decision from the NCAA. “So I would expect that there would be a positive outcome. But, hey, you never know. That’s all I can basically say about that.”
The waiting game has been long and tiring and Michigan State would love to add a blitzing, aggressive and experienced Davis to a linebacking corps that already features Riley Bullough, Andrew Dowell, Jon Reschke and Chris Frey.
