Michigan State Recruiting: KJ Hamler trending toward Penn State?
Could Michigan State recruiting swing and miss on four-star receiver KJ Hamler after whiffing on Ambry Thomas?
Just one day after learning the fate of four-star cornerback Ambry Thomas (Michigan pledge), Michigan State recruiting may miss on another top target, KJ Hamler. The four-star receiver originally from the Detroit area is close to making a decision, and signs are pointing to Penn State.

While the Crystal Ball on 247Sports is far from a barometer in which we should be relying on where a recruit will land, there are some experts who get votes who are reliable sources. Sean Scherer, a Michigan State insider, happens to be one of them.
The MSU expert on 247Sports usually doesn’t put in a Crystal Ball until he has enough intel to make a decision. He had KJ Hamler picked for Michigan State for a while, but on Thursday afternoon, he changed his mind and filed it for Penn State.
Scherer wasn’t the only to do so, either. In fact, Hamler receiver 12 Crystal Balls in the past two days alone from recruiting analysts and he’s considered a heavy Penn State lean after assistants paid him a visit at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
Hamler, a Michigan State lean for some time, might be headed elsewhere in the Big Ten. Mark Dantonio is supposed to pay him a visit, but the news around the recruiting circuit is that he’s close to making his announcement — and there’s a good chance it’s the Nittany Lions.
This would be the second big miss for MSU in as many days as he’s ranked the No. 311 player and 44th-best receiver in the 2017 class.
