Michigan's Jabrill Peppers enters Heisman conversation with massive game vs. Colorado
Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson is the Heisman Trophy frontrunner through three weeks — that’s unquestionable after Jackson’s performance in the Cardinals’ win over Florida State Saturday — but he should have some company in the conversation.
It’s hard to say what position Jabrill Peppers plays for Michigan. He’s a safety-slash-linebacker on defense and a weapon on offense.
No matter what his position is, it’s not debatable that he’s one of the most electrifying players in college football.
Saturday, in a contest where his team didn’t play all that well, Peppers was outstanding — registering nine tackles, a sack, a hurry, 3.5 tackles for loss, 208 all-purpose yards and a game-sealing touchdown.
And he also almost killed a guy.
Colorado has shown with their play early this season that they’re a solid team, so this wasn't beating up on a cupcake.
It’s difficult to overstate how much gravity Peppers played with on Saturday — there was no question who the best player on the field was. Peppers was everywhere and his physical play controlled the game.
Only one primarily defensive player has ever won the Heisman Trophy — Michigan fans are familiar with him: Charles Woodson.
We’re a long way from the end of the season, and Peppers can’t compare his season to Woodson’s yet, but with a few more performances like Saturday’s and a few more Wolverine wins, we might have a conversation on our hands.
You already knew this, but, man, can @JabrillPeppers hit. https://t.co/Qt83XGu9z4
