Mississippi State vs. Kentucky Game Time Announced

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Mississippi State will travel to Kentucky to play the Wildcats on October 22.

Kickoff has been set for 6:30 PM and will be broadcast by SEC Network.

If there’s one thing Dan Mullen does well it’s beat Kentucky. He’s 7-0. If he’s doesn’t beat them this year I don’t know what’s going to happen but it won’t be pretty.

This will be the fifth time Mullen has traveled to Lexington as MSU head coach, compared to just three times hosting Kentucky. That’s due to the scheduling anomaly associated with Texas A&M and Missouri’s entry into the SEC, forcing the home and home series to flip-flop years.

It’s used to be that MSU hosted all the even numbered years, but now they host all the odd numbered years.

Of course, Kentucky is State’s permanent east opponent. The last time the Wildcats won a game in the series was 2008 when MSU missed an extra point which allowed for a 14-13 win. In 2007, Croom magic enabled the Bulldogs to beat UK when they were ranked No. 14 in the country….and had just knocked off No. 1 LSU two weeks prior.

The 2006 and 2005 games were horrible games to recall. Dreadful football. In 2004, MSU won the game off the high of the Florida upset. Don’t get me started on the 2003 game which State blew a 17-0 lead and got blown out 42-17.

Kentucky is one of only two teams that MSU has a winning record against historically. The other being Vanderbilt. It’s nice to have the Wildcats on the schedule each year….but they’ve been playing pretty well the last few weeks and have evened up their record to 3-3.
