We’ve now reached the back half of the 2016 football season. Week 7 was the exact midpoint of the year in terms of weeks (there are 13) and this week starts the second half of the schedule for most teams.
That’s the case for both MSU (2-4) and Kentucky (3-3). Each is trying to find their way in the SEC with an outside shot at a bowl game.
UK and MSU are both averaging 24 points per game on offense this year.
Kentucky’s defense is giving up 31 points on defense, while the Bulldogs are allowing 26.
The Wildcats’ D-line hasn’t been a great strength this year, and that could be State’s edge. With an O-Line that’s been borderline disastrous, if they’re able to give Nick Fitzgerald time to throw and the running backs a chance to find a seam then you could be looking at a real chance to move the ball and score some points.
MSU’s problems have been across the board so it’s hard to point to one thing that needs to be shored up to win the game. Playing with great effort and focus would probably be the top need, however, as they have the talent and ability to beat Kentucky.
Wildcat fans most definitely want to win this one. They haven’t beaten MSU since 2008 and a win here could pave the way towards a bowl game if they can also secure wins over Missouri and Austin Peay.
